Computer Fun in the Children’s Area
The Children’s area of the library has a computer with online learning tools and activities the little ones gravitate to. It is amazing to see how second nature using the computer is to the youngsters. They see it and next thing you know head phones are on them and they are a click away from being on an adventure with Winnie the Pooh, or reading with Curious George. Here are just some of the programs we have available:· Reader Rabbit – Mat, Preschool, 1st grade, 2nd grade
· Magic School Bus – Bugs, Volcanoes, Animals, Flight
· ClueFinders
· Curious George Reads
· Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree
· Arthurs – Kindergarten, Activity Center
· Jumpstart preschool, 4rth grade

Tie Dye at the Library
150 kids and parents were full of excitement today outside the Children’s Literary Garden as they made Tie Dye T-Shirts in celebration of Summer Reading at the Chili Public Library. This is always a popular event at the library and was put together by Jenn our Children’s Librarian with the help from support staff Claire and Jill, pages Declan and Chris, Junior Friends, and Claire’s daughter. If you are interested in trying out tie dye techniques check out the book Batik and Tie Dye by Susie O’Reilly. The following website will also tell you to how you can tie dye on your own.

Keuka Wine Trail Tickets
The Friends of the Chili Public library are raffling off three pairs of Keuka Wine Trail tickets good for September 13 and 14, donated by the Yates County Chamber of Commerce.
Raffle coupons are $1 each or 6 for $5 and may be purchased at the library’s circulation desk. Each set of tickets is over a $50 value! The drawing will be Wednesday August 20.
I particularly like the Keuka Wine Trail. From Ravines to McGregors and Dr. Konstantin Frank’s, each winery is an experience in itself. If you are in the area be sure to also visit Esperanza Mansion for a glorious view and sumptuous eating.

CPL is the Lead Story on the Monroe County Library System Website
Once again CPL has a lead story on the MCLS website (http://www2.libraryweb.org/). The story showcases the library's virtual tour, which is described as "a virtual tour of their library which shows off the building, the services and the people to perfection". If you haven't had a chance to look at our virtual tour yet give it a try. Kudos to staff members Patty, LeeAnn, and the rest of the CPL Emerging Technology Team (Jenn and Justin) for putting the virtual tour together. JB

A Friend In Deed
The Chili Public Library Junior Friends recently sorted food for three hours at Foodlink on Saturday, June 21! They sorted 10 pallets of food equalling approximately 8,000 pounds of donations! The CPL Friends and Junior Friends help out at the library in many ways and this is but one example. Pictured from the Junior Friends are: Nicole Johnston, Sarah Talbot, Miranda McGrath, David Talbot, and Claire Talbot (library staff liaison).

Summer Reading Starts With Airplay

Yesterday over 100 kids and parents joined in the kick off the Summer Reading Program with the juggling and comedy team Airplay! Jeff Peden kept the children transfixed with his juggling skill as Rich Hughson (Loopy) kept them laughing at his prat falls. It was a beautiful day and the children sat on the hill facing the Children’s Literary Garden. The Town Supervisor was there to enjoy the show. Afterward the library was abuzz with child and parent taking books off the shelves in anticipation of continuing their reading adventures. Other library programs can be found at the Chili Public Library website.

The Immortal Game

A chess tournament was held at the library last Thursday and 18 children ranging in age from 7 to 18 participated. The competition was intense, resulting in a playoff game to decide first place. The winner of the playoff, 14 year old Ethan Pasko of Chili took first place, 14 year old Ryan Patalano (also of Chili) took second place, and 7 year old Aaron Lazara, from Chicago (visiting his Grandmother in Chili), earned third place honors. After the tournament, the participants enjoyed pizza and pop. A special thanks to our volunteer Chess Club leader, Adam DeSantis, for running the tournament, and providing the pizza and pop afterwards! The Chili Public Library Chess Club will continue to meet over the summer on July 10 and 24, and August 14 and 28 from 1-5 pm. Tournaments will be held on the last Thursday of the month. Pre-registration is required.
