Turning 50

Well it had to happen. I will be turning 50 next Sunday. The staff celebrated with cake and cookies. With that it is now time to turn to selected works on the subject of turning 50. Such as Bill Geist's humorous book, The Big Five-Oh - found at our library under the call number 818 G313b. There are two books on the psychology of aging, It's Only Too Late If You Don't Start Now by Barbara Sher - 305.244 S51i; and Awakening At MidLife by Kalthleen Brehony - 155.6 B834a. Moving from books to movies there is the recently released dvd, The Sensation of Sight. It is about an English teacher who goes through a midlife crises, not to say I am doing such. Finally I'd like to take a look at the poetry book, Forever Fifty And Other Negotiations by Judith Viorst - 811 V798f. Are there any books or movies that come to your mind about turning the age when your notice from AARP comes in the mail?

One Stroke Painting

Last Wednesday a most popular class occurred at the library. Patrons brought in two undecorated glasses and learned how to paint boughs and berries on their glasses. A great stress reliever and perfect gift to make for the holidays!

Annual Mitten Drive At CPL

The Annual Mitten Drive at our library has begun and we are just into the 3rd day. A patron who wishes to remain anonymous contributed two bags full of hats with mittens to match. She said “If it wasn't for the Chili Library and the great knitting books here - I could have never done this!" We thank her for her contribution.
Thanks goes to the Senior Center 'Chain Gang' as well who contributed many hats and mittens. The new mittens, gloves, and hats will be collected until the 2nd week of January when they will be delivered to the Lewis Street YMCA Child Care Center.

Bon Ton Coupon Book Sales

Thanks to all of you who purchased Bon Ton Community Event Day coupon books. The 119 coupon books were sold to benefit the Friends of Chili Public Library for a total of $595! The Friends use the money to help support the library in its equipment purchases and its programs. Marcia, one of the library’s own staff was instrumental in bringing the idea of the coupon drive to the Friends.
